mothers
mothers caring for one another, building Power and creating the Communities we Need and deserve
The people who built MAH are mothers—caring for their families while also caring for neighbors, organizing resources, building relationships and responding to the needs of our communities.
This work grows from a simple belief: when mothers are healthy, rested, connected and powerful, families and communities are stronger.
This body of work is an ever evolving, mother-driven space to build relationships, practice collective care and develop the power to shape the conditions affecting mothers, families and communities.
BEYOND
SURVIVAL
Motherhood can be joyful, exhausting, isolating and deeply complicated. And what mothers carry is not simply personal. There are real gaps in how mothers are cared for and supported, particularly as they move beyond pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. Too often, mothers are expected to absorb those gaps themselves—to keep giving, adapting and figuring it out.
Living inside those conditions can be a radicalizing experience. What feels like an individual struggle begins to reveal something larger about who is expected to provide care, whose care is valued and what happens when the people holding families and communities together aren't adequately supported themselves.
We believe there is power in recognizing that our lives—and our struggles—are connected.
Mutual aid gives us a way to act on that understanding. We share money and resources. We make space to rest and process. We exchange knowledge. We show up for one another. We ask for what we need and recognize what we have to offer.
These acts can meet immediate, sometimes lifesaving needs. But they can also build relationships, deepen our understanding of the conditions we share and create opportunities for mothers to lead and act together.
We need each other not only to survive, but to build the power to change the conditions that make survival so hard.
Mommas Giving Circle
The Mommas Giving Circle (MGC) moves financial resources directly to mothers while building toward a model increasingly shaped and led by mothers themselves.
The Giving Circle recognizes that sometimes what a mother needs most is direct, immediate support—and that she should not have to prove her hardship or navigate complicated systems to receive it.
But BMGC is about more than moving money. It is an opportunity to practice a different relationship to resources: mothers identifying needs, sharing what we have and increasingly making decisions together about how resources move within our community.
MOTHERS COLLECTIVE
In collaboration with Veronica's Vessel, the Mothers Collective includes a series of connected experiences where mothers can enter the work, build relationships and deepen their practice of collective care.
The experiences range from accessible spaces to pause and connect to deeper opportunities for learning, reflection and relationship-building. Together, they create space for mothers to process what we're carrying while developing the relationships and shared understanding that make collective action possible.
-
Recurring virtual gatherings where mothers can slow down, breathe and connect.
Facilitated by Veronica, each circle includes guided meditation and mindfulness, conversation around motherhood and maternal wellbeing, resource sharing and peer connection.
These circles are free and open to mothers looking for a place to rest, reflect and be in community.

-
A restorative weekend gathering centered on rest, nourishment, reflection, relationship-building and collective visioning.
Mothers will have space for guided meditation, shared meals, creative expression, storytelling and intentional rest—while deepening relationships with other mothers and imagining what sustainable collective care can look like beyond the retreat.
Rest isn't separate from building power. We need spaces to restore ourselves and our relationships if we are going to sustain the work of caring, leading and building together.
More info will be available soon. Become a Mutual Aid Hartford member to receive updates about the retreat and other opportunities for mothers.
